Reading Challenge: If anyone can get 75 Reading Counts points by October 7th, I will treat them to a pizza party the following day. Yah for Caylie Maye Cornwell, McCulloch Hoxie, Geshna Paravata, Kalina Rashkov, and Allison DeYoung!!!! They have meet the reading challenge!
We will be doing chapel on September 16th. Your child has a sheet with what he or she will say during chapel. Please practice this at home with your child so that all the words are enunciated and pronounced correctly. If possible, help your child memorize his or her part. You are welcome to come watch us perform. Chapel is in the Lower School gym at 8:45 a.m.
Book report: All students should be finished reading their book report book. When they finish reading the book, they should take the Reading Counts test on it. After they tell me their score, I will give them the directions and materials for the book report. The book report is due September 23rd.
Reading: On Thursday we will start Ramona Quimby, Age 8. The vocabulary test over the words in chapters 1-3 is on Friday.
Reading with Mrs. Chambers: If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, please go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: All letters have been reviewed/taught. If your child continues to have trouble with a particular letter or letters, I will send home extra practice for him or her to do. On each spelling test students get a cursive handwriting grade. You will see this below the spelling test grade.
Language: We will continue to learn the capitalization rules. The test over all the capitalization rules will be Monday, September 19th.
Spelling: We will learn the words in Lesson 4 this week. Students who get 100% on the spelling pretest on Monday will receive an accelerated spelling list for that week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: Students will be learning how to add details about how something looks, sounds, and feels in order to make their writing more interesting. They will be writing about what their ideal pet would be.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. This month we will focus on subtraction. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems.
Math: We will continue Chapter 2 called "Addition and Subtraction Number Sense." We will do lessons 2-4 through 2-7 this week. Diagnostic Checkpoint 2A will be on Tuesday.
Social Studies: We will finish up Chapter 12 and our study of how our classroom economy works. On Wednesday I will give the students a study guide. They should use this to help them prepare for the test. The test over Chapter 12 will be on Thursday, September 15th.
Bible: Be able to write Matthew 5:7-8 "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
