April 5th is class picture day. Your child must come in uniform this day. No NUT cards, please.
A packet came home last Friday describing our end of the year field trip to the Jacksonville Zoo on Friday, May 6th. Please make sure you read through the packet and then return the $65 fee along with the Emergency Health Information and Permission Form (front and back) by April 22nd. I love going on this trip each year. The students always come back saying it was the best field trip they have ever been on.
April Book Report: Students need to choose a third grade or higher Reading Counts chapter book to read for April. One they are iin the middle of or just about finished with does not count. After he or she is finished reading the book, I will give him or her the supplies and directions for completing the book report. The book report is due April 20th.

If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: Many students need to slow down so that their cursive is not messy. All words should sit on the line, tall letters should touch the top line, and a, o, and d must be closed.
Language: We will review nouns, verbs, and subjects. The next test is on Wednesday, April 6th and covers pages 126 through 135.

Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: We will work one more week on word choice. On Friday, April 8th, we will having our Author Publication Celebration. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag or blanket and a pillow. We will spread ourselves around the room and read each other's picture books. The students are very proud of their work and so am I. They are very excited to share the book they wrote with the rest of the class so this should be a fun celebration.
Timed Tests: Timed tests for addition and subtraction are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night. Now that students have been tested over each multiplication fact set separately, they will be tested with the multiplication facts mixed up. On these tests, the highest fact will be 10 times 10. These tests will be every Friday until the end of the school year so students need to be practicing the facts mixed up each night as well.
