Our class Quiz Bowl competition is Monday, March 25th. All students will participate in the classroom level contest. Mrs. Tootle will preside over the contest and choose one winning team who will then go on to compete against the winning teams from each of the other third and second grade classrooms. To do well, students should study the Georgia Picture Storybook Nominees sheet that went home a few weeks ago. It is very important to know the title and author of each book in order to do well in the Quiz Bowl. Good luck!
Onward and Upward is on March 28th. All money that has been collected is due this day in order to receive prizes. Students should wear their Blue Ribbon t-shirt, modest shorts, and tennis shoes to school that day. PK-2 will have their time from 9:15 to 11:00. 3rd-5th will have their time from 12:30 to 2:00.
Thursday is our class Easter party. We will celebrate at some point during the day by hiding and then searching for plastic eggs. Please send 12 candy filled plastic eggs that have been taped shut. I don't mind if they have chocolate in them. Most students seem to prefer that. On Thursday, students also need to bring an Easter basket (or a bag, etc.) for the Easter egg hunt.
Xtra Math: Please remember to have your child do Xtra Math Monday though Friday. This is a daily homework assignment. If your computer crashes, etc., please just send me a note so your child can be excused for that night's practice.
The next reading challenge is to get to 250 Reading Counts points. Those that make that goal get to spend the night in the library and have a blast. There are games in the gym, board games and crafts in the library, and computer games and face painting in the computer lab. There will be tons of pizza and snacks. Everyone gets donuts for breakfast. I think almost everyone in my class is going to make it. They are doing such a fantastic job of reading. So far these students already have 250 or more Reading Counts points: Emelia, Noah, Jonathan, Jack, Ellie, Caroline, Dhruv, Keniyah, Alayna, and Ty. There are a bunch more students who are very close!
Students needs to choose traditional literature (tall tales, fairy tales, folk tales, fables, and legends) to read for the next reading assignment. They should read books worth a total of 6 or more points and take the Reading Counts tests on the books by April 19th. Students in my reading group must read books that are fourth grade or higher. Everyone else must read books that are third grade or higher.
