Information for Parents
- Behavior: I have very high expectations for my students’ behavior. They will know all of the rules, and they will follow them. If a rule is broken, however, the infraction will be tracked using Class Dojo, an online behavior management system. For more serious infractions such as lying, cheating, stealing, and sharing of passwords, an S.C.P.S. Disciplinary Notice will be filled out, and the child will be referred to the principal or assistant principal. You will be notified so that we can all work together to help your child improve.
- Communication: The best way to communicate with me is via email at [email protected]. You are welcome to send me a note as well. I am available to conference with you at any time before or after school. Please just contact me to set up an appointment.
- Responsibility: It is very important that your child is responsible for his/her learning. Students need to make sure they have all material for each class every day. After 3 times forgetting to bring needed materials or forgetting to get their Assignment Book signed or other papers signed, they will receive a "W" on their report card in the area of "Brings Required Materials to Class." After 5 times, they will receive an “N”, and after 9 times, they will receive a "U" in the same area. A “U” makes a child ineligible for honor roll.
- Homework: Your child should have approximately 60 minutes of homework every night. (Do remember that things take a little longer in the beginning and allow extra time the first week.) He or she should study spelling/vocabulary words, math facts, and the Bible verse every night IN ADDITION TO the 60 minutes of other assignments. I will write all the assignments on the board, and your child will be responsible for copying them in the assignment book and completing them neatly and on time. After 3 assignments not turned in or turned in incomplete, your child will receive a "W" on the report card in the area of "Completes Homework." After 5 assignments not turned in or turned in incomplete, your child will receive an “N”, and after 9 assignments not turned in or turned in incomplete, your child will receive a "U" in that area. A “U” makes a child ineligible for honor roll.
- Signed Papers: On Tuesdays all the previous week’s graded work will be sent home. Please do not remove the staple from the set of papers. Please sign the top paper and any other papers that have a parent signature request on them. If papers are not signed, your child will receive a mark in the responsibility book.
- Notes/Flyers/Order Forms: Each child has a binder that will come home each day. In the front pocket of this will be all notes, flyers, etc. that need your attention. Please check this pocket daily. You can return items here as well for your child to turn in to me.
- Birthdays: Snacks may be sent in for birthday celebrations. Cupcakes, cookies, or donuts are very good choices for students. Do NOT send drinks or party favors of any kind. If your child has a summer birthday and would like to choose an “unbirthday,” let me know when it’s convenient for you. We share birthday treats during our lunch time. Birthday invitations may only be given out at school if they are for the entire class.
- Snacks: If your child would like to bring a healthy snack (fruit, veggies, non-coated granola bars, bran muffins, crackers, cheese, nuts) to eat during recess, he or she is welcome to do so. Please also send in a water bottle with sip top. These need to be sent in every day as we have only one drinking fountain for all of third, fourth, and fifth grades.
- Class Dojo - Your child's behavior will be tracked using Class Dojo. You will be given a login sheet so you can see how your child did each day in class.
- Book Covers – All textbooks must be covered at all times to protect them from damage and minimize wear and tear. Brown paper bags make great book covers. This is an economical and fun way to cover the books. Make sure not to tape anything directly to the book. Sticky book covers should NEVER be used.
- Online Grades - Please remember you can access all your child’s grades online using NetClassroom just like last year.
