I will be out on Friday so that I can do some last minute prep for the Rock and Roll Marathon that I will be running on Saturday.
Xtra Math: Please remember to have your child do Xtra Math Monday though Friday. They will get the best results from doing the practice one time per day. If your child missed one day this week, please have him or her do it on Saturday or Sunday so that he or she is getting five days of practice.
The next reading challenge is to get to 150 Reading Counts points by December 14th. Students who meet the challenge will be treated to a pizza party the following Monday. By getting to 150 points by this day, students are on the path to earning the Reading Counts Spend-the-Night party at the end of the school year. Emelia, Noah, Caroline, and Alayna have already met the second quarter challenge!
Book Report: The students should be reading their mystery chapter book. The November book report book must be finished and the Reading Counts test taken on it by November 16th.
Reading: My reading group will be reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle. The Chapter 7-9 Vocabulary Test is on Wednesday.

Cursive Handwriting: Students need to work on slowing down to improve neatness. Students need to focus on making sure to close a, o, and d.
Language: We will learn how to combine shorter sentences and how form plurals.
Spelling: Please make sure your child leaves the spelling workbook in his/her binder. We will learn the words in Lesson 11. Students must also know the definitions for the vocabulary words and how to spell the words that are part of the definition. The test will be on Thursday. Under the spelling grade on each test is a grade (S, W, N, or U) for their cursive. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "Brenda Speir." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: Students are working on writing to persuade.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. This quarter we will focus on addition and subtraction. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems.
Math: We will cover lessons 3-13 through 3-14. Diagnostic Checkpoint 3C is on Wednesday. You are welcome to do the copy of it in the book the night before. The Chapter 3 Test is on Thursday.
Social Studies: Students are learning about geography, maps, and our community. They will have a test over the continents, oceans, and their address on October 30th. They will have a test called "People and Places to Know" on November 2nd. Students have study guides for both of these tests. Students must memorize how to spell all the words for both tests. We will be learning about the information in Chapter 1 about communities and will continue learning geography and map skills.
Bible: Proverbs 3:3 "Never forget to be truthful and kind. Hold these virtues tightly. Write them within your heart." Be prepared to write the verse on Friday. Spelling does not count but capitalization does.
