Thanks to Carmen DeYoung, Teresa Mercer, and Marsha Oliver who are heading up our gingerbread design for the Savannah Harbor Foundation's Eleventh Annual Gingerbread Decorating Contest. We need lots of candy to decorate the gingerbread house. If you can send any of the following, we would really appreciate it. I will remove items from the list below as we receive them.
lollipops (multicolor and small/medium size), large candy canes, peppermints (any color), 1 pack gum (in color), coconut, Red Hots.

Book report: The biography books reports look spectacular. Everyone got to read his/her report last week. I know the class learned a lot doing this book report. For the next book report, students need to choose a Zoo Book magazine from my classroom. Students should read the magazine. When they are finished, I will give them the directions on how to do the report.
Reading: We will wrap up The Mouse and the Motorcycle. The Chapters 12-13 vocabulary test is Monday. Then we will begin The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
Reading with Mrs. Chambers: If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, please go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: All letters have been reviewed/taught. If your child continues to have trouble with a particular letter or letters, I will send home extra practice for him or her to do. On each spelling test students get a cursive handwriting grade. You will see this below the spelling test grade.
Language: We will review the rules for making singular nouns plural. The next test is on Wednesday. It covers pages 48-59.
Spelling: Students will learn the words in lesson 13 this week. Students who get 100% on the spelling pretest on Monday will receive an accelerated spelling list for that week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: This week we will focus on the different organization methods: venn diagrams, flow charts, and webs. Students will decide which method is best depending on the purpose of their writing.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. This month I give students both additon and subtraction timed tests. They should be ready each week for both kinds of timed tests. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems.
Math: We will finish continue with Chapter 4 called "Time, Data, and Graphs." We will complete lessons 4-6 through 4-10. Diagnostic 4B is on Monday, November 14th.
