On Monday, all students in my class should come out of uniform to have their picture taken by Michelle Morris. A letter explaining went home Friday. This is a free non-uniform day.
The next reading challenge is to get to 225 Reading Counts points by March 14th. We will have a pizza party the following Tuesday for all those who meet the challenge. So far, Emelia, Noah, Jonathan, Caroline, Keniyah, Alayna, Jack, Dhruv, and Ellie have met the challenge!
Students are reading poetry. They may either read one book or several books as long as the total equals four or more Reading Counts points. They should show me the poetry books they have chosen so that I can approve them. All four points should be earned by March 8th.
Reading: We are reading Dear Mr. Henshaw. The first vocabulary test will be on Wednesday.

Cursive Handwriting: Students need to work on slowing down to improve neatness.
Language: We are learning about the parts of speech starting with nouns.
Spelling: Please make sure your child leaves the spelling workbook in his/her binder. They will learn the works in lesson 23 this week. Students must also know the definitions for the vocabulary words and how to spell the words that are part of the definition. Under the spelling grade on each test is a grade (S, W, N, or U) for their cursive. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "Brenda Speir." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: We will continue to work on sentence fluency including fixing run-on sentences and avoiding rambling sentences. Students will also be making a simple question and answer book about a desert organism that will be part of the desert report we do this week in science.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. For the remainder of this quarter we will focus on subtraction and multiplication. Students will no have a subtraction and multiplication timed test each week. The multiplication tests will now be mixed with facts up to nine times nine. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems.
Math: We will complete lessons 8-7 through 8-10. Diagnostic Checkpoint 8B will be on Friday. Students have a list of vocabulary that goes with this chapter. They should review the terms we have covered so far in the chapter each night. Quiz 2 over angels and polygons from Lessons 8-5 and 8-6 in on Monday. Quiz 3 over triangles and quadrilaterals from Lessons 8-7 and 8-8 is on Thursday.
Science: We will continue Unit B Chapter 1. We will learn about deserts this week and complete a desert report.
Bible: Psalm 33:8 "Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere Him."
