I am so proud of Jewell, John Henry, Austin, Morgan, Zadie, Molly, and Taylor for earning 225 Reading Counts points by March 10th. I will be providing pizza and drinks on Thursday, March 24th to celebrate all their hard work. If someone would like to send in a dessert to share, that would be wonderful!
Next week (March 28 through April 1) is standardized testing. Please remember to have your child wear his or her uniform each day as NUT cards are not to be used the week of testing. Each day I would like to have a little treat for the students in order to celebrate all their hard work that day. I am looking for five volunteers who could send in the following for the students next week. If you are able to volunteer, please just send me an email, and I will reply back confirming the treat and the day. Thanks for all your support! ***I now have 5 volunteers. Thank you so much!!!
Monday: popscicles or some sort of frozen treat - Dianne Humes
Tuesday: donuts or donut holes - Katrina Richards
Wednesday: cookies - Laurie Axtell
Thursday: brownies - Cindy Clark
Friday: bubbles - Tina Sheredy
Reading: The accelerated reading group will be reading Everything on a Waffle. We will read the first two chapters and have the first vocabulary test on Friday, March 25th.
If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: Many students need to slow down so that their cursive is not messy. All words should sit on the line, tall letters should touch the top line, and a, o, and d must be closed.
Language: We will review nouns and nouns as subjects. Test 11 over pages 114 through 125 will be on Wednesday. We will then begin to learn about verbs and how to identify those in a sentence.
Spelling: We are learning the words in lesson 27 this week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: This week we will work on coloring the illustrations for the picture books, which are due Friday.
Timed Tests: Timed tests for addition and subtraction are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night. Now that students have been tested over each multiplication fact set separately, they will be tested with the multiplication facts mixed up. On these tests, the highest fact will be 10 times 10. These tests will be every Friday until the end of the school year so students need to be practicing the facts mixed up each night as well.
Math: Diagnostic Checkpoint 8C is Monday, and then the Chapter 8 test is Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will begin Chapter 9 on fractions. We will cover lessons 9-1 through 9-3.
Social Studies: We will begin Unit 4: Chapter 7 called "Many Kinds of People."
Bible: hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
