Friday is a Professional Development Day so there will be no school for students. Monday is a holiday for everyone.

Xtra Math: Please remember to have your child do Xtra Math Monday though Friday. This is a daily homework assignment. If your computer crashes, etc., please just send me a note so your child can be excused for that night's practice.
The next reading challenge is to get to 225 Reading Counts points by March 14th. We will have a pizza party the following Tuesday for all those who meet the challenge. So far, Emelia, Noah, Jonathan, Caroline, Keniyah, Alayna, Jack, Dhruv, Ellie, and Ty have met the challenge!
Students should be reading their informational books. This would include any nonfiction Reading Counts book or combination of books totaling four or more points. Students should have read and taken the tests on the book(s) by March 22nd.
Reading: We are reading Dear Mr. Henshaw. The second vocabulary test will be on Tuesday.

Cursive Handwriting: Students need to work on slowing down to improve neatness.
Language: We are learning about the parts of speech starting with nouns. Test 11 will be on Thursday. It covers pages 114 through 125.
Spelling: Please make sure your child leaves the spelling workbook in his/her binder. They will learn the works in lesson 24 this week. Students must also know the definitions for the vocabulary words and how to spell the words that are part of the definition. Under the spelling grade on each test is a grade (S, W, N, or U) for their cursive. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "Brenda Speir." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: We will continue to work on sentence fluency including fixing run-on sentences and avoiding rambling sentences. Students will also be taking notes and writing a report on a sea creature that will be part of the ocean report we do this week in science.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. For the remainder of this quarter we will focus on subtraction and multiplication. Students will no have a subtraction and multiplication timed test each week. The multiplication tests will now be mixed with facts up to nine times nine. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems.
Math: We will complete lessons 8-11 through 8-14. Diagnostic Checkpoint 8C will be on Tuesday, March 19th. The Chapter 8 Test will be on Wednesday, March 20th.
Science: We will learn about grasslands and then begin our "Life in the Ocean Report".
