Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and older siblings! If you would like to be a mystery reader for our class, we have 6 spots left starting in February and going through the end of the school year. Just take a look on the Weekly Reader tab at the very bottom for a list of dates that are available. Then email me to let me know which date you would like. I can't wait to hear from you!
Congratulations to Morgan, Molly, Taylor, John Henry, Jewell, Sarah, and Zadie who met last quarter's reading challenge!!! I will be providing pizza for lunch on Thursday. If anyone could send dessert, that would be wonderful too.
This quarter's reading challenge is to get 225 Reading Counts points by March 10th, the end of the third quarter. Getting 225 points by this date will put them on the right track for making it to the end of the year sleepover. For those who meet the challenge, I will be providing pizza for lunch. Zadie, Molly, and Taylor have already met this challenge as well since all three girls have over 250 Reading Counts points and will also get to go to the Reading Counts sleepover at the end of the year! This is a huge accomplishment, and I am so proud of them.
Reading: If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. The accelerated group is reading Shiloh.
Cursive Handwriting: We have reviewed all the letters. Some students need extra practice at home as well. I will continue to write notes on the tops of paper for the children who are still finding it a challenge to form the cursive letters correctly.
Language: We will review capitalization, punctuation, plurals, parts of a letter, synonyms, homophones, and anotonyms this week.
Spelling: We will be learning the words in Lesson 19 next week, but for this week there is no spelling. Instead we will be reading some of the Georgia Book Award books. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Spelling Bee: We will have the class spelling bee on January 13th. Our top two spellers will then compete against the top two spellers from the other third grade classes the week on January 18-21. Study the lists that were sent home around Thanksgiving time. Have fun with this!
