Congratulations to John Henry and Abby for making it into our third grade spelling bee!!!! John Henry came in second and appeared on the Raider Report News!
This quarter's reading challenge is to get 225 Reading Counts points by March 10th, the end of the third quarter. Getting 225 points by this date will put them on the right track for making it to the end of the year sleepover. For those who meet the challenge, I will be providing pizza for lunch. Zadie, Molly, and Taylor have already met this challenge as well since all three girls have over 250 Reading Counts points and will also get to go to the Reading Counts sleepover at the end of the year! This is a huge accomplishment, and I am so proud of them.
Reading: If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. The accelerated group is reading Shiloh.
Cursive Handwriting: We have reviewed all the letters. Some students need extra practice at home as well. I will continue to write notes on the tops of paper for the children who are still finding it a challenge to form the cursive letters correctly.
Language: We will learn the correct use of sit, sat, set, to, two, and too. The next test will be Friday. It will cover pages 86-96.
Spelling: We will cover lesson 20 this week. The test is on Thursday. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: This week we will continue to write our own picture books. Students will need to be finished by Friday. Then their text will be typed at home by a parent or the student. After that, students will cut the printed text and glue it into their books. Finally students will illustrate their books.
Timed Tests: Timed tests are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night.
Math: We are starting division this week. We will cover lessons 7-1 through 7-4. The Chapter 7A Diagnostic Checkpoint is on Friday.
