I am looking for people who would like to be the mystery reader this second half of the school year. Please go to the Weekly Reader tab above to see a list of available dates. Just email me once you have chosen your date. The kids love it when the mystery reader is someone in their family.
Reading Challenge: The next reading challenge is to get 225 Reading Counts points by March 8th. Frankie, Caylie Maye, McCulloch, William, Geshna, and Kalina already have more than this many points. Way to go! Allison and Teddie are very close! Read, read, read!
Georgia Day Project: The information sheet is due January 23rd. We will use the information sheet to write a paragraph in school this week. Students will also be making a poster at home. The poster is due February 1st. The posters and paragraphs will be on display in the hall all during the month of February.

Reading with Mrs. Chambers: If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, please go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: All letters have been reviewed/taught. If your child continues to have trouble with a particular letter or letters, I will send home extra practice for him or her to do. On each spelling test students get a cursive handwriting grade. You will see this below the spelling test grade.
Language: On Monday there will be a test over pages 91-96. We will then begin dictionary skills.
Spelling: This week students will learn the words in Lesson 20. Students who get 100% on the spelling pretest on Monday will receive an accelerated spelling list for that week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: Students will be working on word choice while writing a variety of forms of poetry. We will also review persuasive writing and write a position paper on whether or not schools should have P.E. five days a week.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. This month students will have a subtraction and a multiplication timed test each Tuesday. Students have 1 minute for 25 problems, 2 minutes for 50 problems, or 4 minutes for 100 problems. Below is the list of test dates for the multiplication timed tests. I sent home a packet last Monday that had the test dates listed, test parameters, and example tests that you may photocopy for practice at home.
