Monday is a non-uniform day for my class only. They will be having their pictures taken by Michelle Morris Photography. A letter went home explaining this and how to order the pictures.
This quarter's reading challenge is to get 225 Reading Counts points by March 10th, the end of the third quarter. Getting 225 points by this date will put them on the right track for making it to the end of the year sleepover. For those who meet the challenge, I will be providing pizza for lunch. Austin, Morgan, Zadie, Molly, and Taylor have already met this challenge. I am so proud of them.
Reading: If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. The accelerated group is reading Dear Mr. Henshaw.
Cursive Handwriting: We have reviewed all the letters. Some students need extra practice at home as well. I will continue to write notes on the tops of paper for the children who are still finding it a challenge to form the cursive letters correctly.
Language: We will learn about nouns.
Spelling: We are learning the words in lesson 25 this week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: This week we will work on word choice. Students are working on choosing more exact nouns and verbs as well as adding interesting adjectives to their writing. The next few weeks we will also be working on putting together and illustrating the picture books the students wrote in January.
Timed Tests: Timed tests for addition and subtraction are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night. Now that students have been tested over each multiplication fact set separately, they will be tested with the multiplication facts mixed up. On these tests, the highest fact will be 10 times 10. These tests will be every Friday until the end of the school year so students need to be practicing the facts mixed up each night as well.
Math: We will have the Chapter 8B Diagnostic Checkpoint on Friday. This week we will cover lessons 8-7 through 8-10.
Science: We will continu Unit B Chapter 1 on ecosystems. This week we will learn all about the grassland and ocean ecosystems.
Bible: The Bible verse is Proverbs 12:19 "Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment."
