Picture Day and Nut Day are Friday, August 27th.
Reading: Students will begin reading groups this week. Third grade groups will be reading..... The accelerated group will be reading Frindle for the next few weeks.
Cursive Handwriting: We will be reviewing capital letters this week.
Language: We will be learning about complete sentences and the types of sentences. The first language test is on August 31st. It will cover pages 1-11 in the workbook.
Writing: We are working on making our ideas clear as well as writing paragraphs with a topic sentence, three or more detail sentences, and a concluding sentence. We will review indenting paragraphs and making sure all sentences are complete thoughts.
Timed Tests: Timed tests are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 addition problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night.
Math: We are learning the material in Chapter 1. We will cover lessons 1-6 through 1-9. All students have access to the math book online. Diagnostic Checkpoint 1A is on Tuesday. You can do this as practice with your child at home if you wish. All Diagnostic Checkpoints are in the math book (and online). All Diagnostic Checkpoints done in class are graded.
Social Studies: We will learn about our classroom economy this week. We will discuss the class store, the banker, the cashier, and the classroom economist.
Bible: This year students will have to write the Bible verse each Friday. This week's verse is John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
