The Third Grade Quiz Bowl competition is Wednesday, April 11th at 10:30 in the Blue Room. Parents of the five participating students are welcome to attend and watch. Mrs. Tootle will preside over the contest. To do well, students should study the Georgia Picture Storybook Nominees sheet that went home a few weeks ago. It is very important to know the title and author of each book in order to do well in the Quiz Bowl. Good luck!
April 11th is class picture day. No NUT cards may be used. Everyone must wear their school uniform since this is a class photo.
April 12th is the Honors Chapel in the Lower School Gym at 8:45.
Xtra Math: Please remember to have your child do Xtra Math Monday though Friday. This is a daily homework assignment. If your computer crashes, etc., please just send me a note so your child can be excused for that night's practice.
The next reading challenge is to get to 250 Reading Counts points. Those that make that goal get to spend the night in the library and have a blast. There are games in the gym, board games and crafts in the library, and computer games and face painting in the computer lab. There will be tons of pizza and snacks. Everyone gets donuts for breakfast. I think almost everyone in my class is going to make it. They are doing such a fantastic job of reading. So far these students already have 250 or more Reading Counts points: Emelia, Noah, Jonathan, Jack, Ellie, Caroline, Dhruv, Keniyah, Alayna, and Ty. There are a bunch more students who are very close!
Students need to choose traditional literature (tall tales, fairy tales, folk tales, fables, and legends) to read for the next reading assignment. They should read books worth a total of 6 or more points and take the Reading Counts tests on the books by April 19th. Students in my reading group must read books that are fourth grade or higher. Everyone else must read books that are third grade or higher.
Reading: We will continue reading Everything on a Waffle this week. Vocabulary Test 2 is April 9th. Vocabulary Test 3 is April 12th.

Spelling: Please make sure your child leaves the spelling workbook in his/her binder. Students will learn the words in Lesson 26 this week. Students must also know the definitions for the vocabulary words and how to spell the words that are part of the definition. Under the spelling grade on each test is a grade (S, W, N, or U) for their cursive. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the grade level spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "Brenda Speir." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: Students will be writing poetry this month.
Timed Tests: Timed tests will be on Tuesdays this year. For the remainder of this quarter we will focus on subtraction and multiplication.
