The Grandparents' Day program is this Friday at 9:30 in the Eckberg Center. If your child does not have a grandparent attending, a special friend or parent may attend instead. There will also be a special parent preview of the show on Thursday at 1:45 in the Eckberg Center. We hope you will come! On Friday, children may be checked out after the program in order to spend the rest of the day with their grandparent. Please remind them to stop by the classroom to pick up the gift their child made for their grandparent. I will be here to greet grandparents. They are welcome to tour the classroom and the rest of the campus as well.
Xtra Math: Please remember to have your child do Xtra Math Monday though Friday. This is a daily homework assignment. If your computer crashes, etc., please just send me a note so your child can be excused for that night's practice.
The next reading challenge is to get to 250 Reading Counts points. Those that make that goal get to spend the night in the library and have a blast. There are games in the gym, board games and crafts in the library, and computer games and face painting in the computer lab. There will be tons of pizza and snacks. Everyone gets donuts for breakfast. I think almost everyone in my class is going to make it. They are doing such a fantastic job of reading. So far these students already have 250 or more Reading Counts points: Kerrigan, Will, Emelia, Noah, Jonathan, Jack, Robbie, Ellie, Caroline, Dhruv, Ty, William, Keniyah, and Alayna. There are serveral more students who are very close!
Students need to choose any chapter book on their grade level and have it approved by me. Students should read the book and take the Reading Counts test on the book by May 3rd.
Reading: We will continue reading Everything on a Waffle. The next vocabulary test is on Thursday. Please encourage your child to make sure he or she answers the written comprehension questions fully and in complete sentences. We have been working hard in class on these skills to prepare the students for fourth grade accelerated reading.
