Our Easter party is Wednesday, April 20th at 2:00. Please send in a dozen empty plastic eggs numbered 1 through 12 by Monday. Also, if you have not yet sent in a treat (stickers, pencils, candy, or some other small toy) for the treat bags, please send that in by Monday as well so that our room mom, Dianne Humes, has time to put the bags together. Thanks!!!
April Book Report: Students should finish reading their book report book this weekend. On Monday, they should take the Reading Counts test, and then I will give them the supplies and directions for completing the book report. The book report is due April 20th.
Reading: The accelerated reading group will be reading Everything on a Waffle. Vocabulary test 4 will be on Wednesday, April 20th. If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: Many students need to slow down so that their cursive is not messy. All words should sit on the line, tall letters should touch the top line, and a, o, and d must be closed.
Language: The next test is on Monday, April 18th. It will cover pages 140 through 145. We will then begin learning about adjectives. It is very important that students can easily identify nouns in a sentence since adjectives modify nouns. Please review identifying nouns at home if your child is having difficutly with this.
Spelling: There is no spelling this week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: We are now working on sentence fluency. This includes adding variety to sentence length, sentence beginnings, and types of sentences within a paragraph. Due to the length of the Honors Assembly last Friday, we were not able to read all of the student written picture books. We will have Part II of our Author Publication Celebration on April 20th. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag or blanket and a pillow. We will spread ourselves around the room and read each other's picture books. The students are very proud of their work and so am I. They are very excited to share the book they wrote with the rest of the class so this should be a fun celebration. They will get to vote for which books they thought had the best story, the best illustrations, and was the most humorous.
Timed Tests: Timed tests for addition and subtraction are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night. Now that students have been tested over each multiplication fact set separately, they will be tested with the multiplication facts mixed up. On these tests, the highest fact will be 10 times 10. These tests will be every Friday until the end of the school year so students need to be practicing the facts mixed up each night as well.
Math: We will begin Chapter 10 on decimals this week. We will cover lessons 10-1 through 10-3.
Science: We will begin Unit B, Chapter 2 called "Living Things Depend on One Another."
Bible: No Bible verse this week.
