A packet came home Friday before last describing our end of the year field trip to the Jacksonville Zoo on Friday, May 6th. Please make sure you read through the packet and then return the $65 fee along with the Emergency Health Information and Permission Form (front and back) by April 22nd. I love going on this trip each year. The students always come back saying it was the best field trip they have ever been on.
Grandparents' Day is Friday, April 15th. I look forward to meeing all the children's grandparents. The special preview of the program for parents is Thursday night at 6:45 p.m. in the Eckburg Center. ***Wednesday is a free non uniform day due to Grandparents' Day practice. ***Thursday students must bring a lunch from home since the cafeteria will be closed so that the younger students can do their Grandparents' Day program in that location.
April Book Report: After each student is finished reading the book, I will give him or her the supplies and directions for completing the book report. The book report is due April 20th.
Reading: The accelerated reading group will be reading Everything on a Waffle. Vocabulary test 3 will be on Friday, April 14th. If your child has Mrs. Slaughter for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrsslaughter.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week. If your child goes to Mrs. Chambers for reading, then you can go to her website at http://mrscchambers.weebly.com to find out what they are doing in reading each week.
Cursive Handwriting: Many students need to slow down so that their cursive is not messy. All words should sit on the line, tall letters should touch the top line, and a, o, and d must be closed.
Language: We will review this week. The next test is on Monday, April 18th. It will cover pages 140 through 145.
Spelling: We will learn the words in lesson 29 this week. You can go to www.spellingcity.com for online practice of the spelling words each week. Just go "Find a List" and then for the teacher type in "SCPS Third Grade." All the lists for the entire year will appear. Just choose the one for this week.
Writing: We will work one more week on word choice. Due to the length of the Honors Assembly last Friday, we were not able to read all of the student written picture books. We will have Part II of our Author Publication Celebration on April 20th. Students will need to bring a sleeping bag or blanket and a pillow. We will spread ourselves around the room and read each other's picture books. The students are very proud of their work and so am I. They are very excited to share the book they wrote with the rest of the class so this should be a fun celebration. They will get to vote for which books they thought had the best story, the best illustrations, and was the most humorous.
Timed Tests: Timed tests for addition and subtraction are on Wednesdays. This week will be 100 subtraction problems in 4 minutes. Students should be studying addition and subtraction math facts every night. Now that students have been tested over each multiplication fact set separately, they will be tested with the multiplication facts mixed up. On these tests, the highest fact will be 10 times 10. These tests will be every Friday until the end of the school year so students need to be practicing the facts mixed up each night as well.
Math: The Chapter 9 Test will be Tuesday, April 12th.
Social Studies: We will continue with Unit 4, Chapter 7. The Chapter 7 Test is Wednesday, April 13th. A study guide will go home on April 11th.
Bible: No Bible verse this week.
